This special benefit concert for the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade could bridge the gap between contemporary hipsters who religiously read Pitchforkmedia and grown-up hippies who faithfully tune in to local Americana radio station KPIG. Since the early '90s, Will Oldham, a favorite of America's indie music fans, has been doing his own personal take on classic American music forms including country, folk, rock and gospel under different monikers including Palace Brothers, Palace Music and Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Co-headlining the show is Pegi Young, who released her self titled debut album of laid back country tunes in 2007. (She is married to a musician named Neil, who does play on the CD.) This pairing will probably show that these two acts have more in common than one might initially think. [ST]
