Don't expect any poppy "MMMBop" from Salinas' young bands. The eight groups performing at the second annual Battle of the Bands will be punching overdrive pedals and hoping the city doesn't shut down the mosh pits. Defending alt-rock champs Berlinrose will be going up against: Hero Shot!, a mix of techno and screamo that sounds like Rammstein meets Linkin Park; Skyway View, a haunting, ambient band reminiscent of Evanescence, and Override, a Metallica-influenced quartet. The other bands vying to close the show are August Sky, Demo, Call The Paramedics, and A Fateful Encounter. [ZS]
