Chico's The Shimmies manage to conjure up memories of the best '90s alt rock with a twist of their own sound. Composed of three brothers and an unrelated drummer, The Shimmies evoke a stripped-down Nirvana on "July 4th," while the raw rock vocals on "Swimming Without the Sharks" recalls Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. Santa Cruz's Steve Vernon is also on tonight's bill. [ST]
