CSUMB stretches Earth Day into Earth Week. Let's get right to it. Noon-2pm Friday, April 17, People's Party plays on the main quad. Saturday morning starts with a campus clean-up (call 582-3700 to volunteer), segues to a noon barbecue at the Student Center, and is accompanied by restoration at Natividad Creek Park 10am-1pm. Sunday, volunteers help out at the Community Garden on Soledad in Salinas 9am-2pm; the students make "trash art" from discarded items on the main quad, where a clothing swap also goes down. On Monday, a couple bands perform on the quad noon-2pm, then the Black Box Cabaret hosts Andrea Blunt, James Meder and Andrew Heringer 8-10pm. Tuesday starts with a free breakfast for those who bike to the Otter Bay restaurant 7-10am. Wednesday--more food, in the form of a sustainable picnic lunch on the quad noon-2pm with enviro orgs and famers; then reggae bands at Black Box Cabaret 8pm-midnight. Thursday finds work in the Watershed Institute community garden; later, students camp out on the quad to save electricity. Friday goes on a hike to Soberanes Canyon. Saturday closes the week-long events with a peace conference and two movie screenings, including the family-friendly animated number Arctic Ice at noon, and a film and talk about humback whales at 5pm--both in the Student Center.
