"We love you, Conrad, oh yes we do/We love you Conrad, and we'll be true.'' A revival of the Broadway classic loosely based on the rise and fall of Elvis is being revived in Salinas. Teen throb Birde, aka Presley, is being drafted, and in a prelude to "American Idol'' reality shows, is scheduled to say goodbye to civilian life on the Ed Sullivan show, with a kiss to a teenage girl selected from his adoring fans. The movie version catapulted Ann-Margret into stardom, with Dick Van Dyke as Birdie's engaging manager sorting out the conflicts between his mother and long-suffering love interest/secretary. Added attractions from Western Stage Artistic Director Jon Patrick Selover and his team on opening night will include about a dozen classic cars from the period parked out front to give it that way-back machine feel;with a 50 percent discount offered to anyone who comes in their "coolest'' '50s attire.'' Bring out those Angora sweaters and poodle skirts - guys, do your best to look like greasers. Now, where's the musical based on Michael Jackson's life that we've all been waiting for?[PW]
