Opened in 1976, the first three years of the 160-seat Wharf Theater's life was given over to Morgan Stock and his MPC Drama students; since then, proprietor Angelo DiGirolamo has been at the helm. This is the third year of their big community show, Broadway, a two-hour narrative revue that absorbs skits, bits and music from Broadway shows like Cabaret, Oliver!, Secret Garden, Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma! and the like. It's brought to life by a large cast, lead by theater folk like Michelle Boulware (Evita, Kiss Me Kate); Keith Wolhart, tenor, with more than 70 productions over last 25 years; and new find, 9-year-old Tanner Gray, ("Oh God, does he sing," says Angelo. "He's got a special face for the pictures."); and old stage veteran Guido Scarato. George Peterson, on piano, replicates a full orchestra, thanks to his synthesizer, and director/choreographer Gina Welch-Hagen, who's worked with Angelo 27 years, pulls it all together again. It runs until Aug. 30. [WR]
