It was in Rio where I saw a midget man on a midget horse dance with a dude about eight feet tall as part of a Carnival parade that trucked huge vehicles with balconies on top and woofers the size of tractor tires on the bottom. Thing is, the samba I saw was just as impressive. Locals get a sample—for free—as Jorge Alabe and Samba Rio thump "The Story of Brazilian Samba" into our culturally thirsty county. Expect candomblé, samba de roda, pagode, batucada—and energy. [MCA]
