Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jane Smiley takes her passion for horses to the pages of her first novel for young adults. “The Georges and the Jewels” takes place on a farm in the 1960s and tells the story of a young girl who seeks comfort in her horses from the stresses of school and life. Smiley has written over a dozen books on various topics and taught creative writing at Iowa State University.
