Ever since Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, ballet and the winter holiday season have become somewhat synonymous. Michael Smuin’s Ballet debuted in 1994 in the Bay Area to high praise. The mission statement of the company is: “to bring enjoyment of dance to new as well as existing audiences through works of uncompromising originality and quality.” And Smuin’s annual Christmas Ballet: Smuin Ballet’s Holiday Favorite, sticks close to the mission, bringing traditional favorites as well as sexy and progressive dance featuring new choreography from Amy Seiwert and Robert Sund.
