December Concerts at Hartnell College

A series of winter concerts adds holiday sparkle to the chilly evening. All starting at 7:30pm, Dec. 9 brings A Winter Choral Concert, conducted by Sandy Rudo and accompanied by Barbara Vela, which ranges across "Silver Bells," "Hallelujah Chorus," and "Zum Gali" (a Hebrew folksong, fyi). On Dec. 10, Dr. Carl Christensen conducts the Hartnell College Community Orchestra and Chorus and solo vocalists Robin McKee Williams and James Grainger in Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, pieces from Handel's Messiah and White Christmas. On Dec. 14, in Recital Hall (PA 125), Dr. Christensen directs the Hartnell College Jazz Ensemble in classic swing, jazz and Latin numbers, including Chalie Parker, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Lennie Niehaus and Don Schamber. Dec. 15, Dr. Chistensen conducts the Hartnell Community Band and special guest high school musicians in holiday standards including Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson and works by Saint-Saens, Kennth Alford and Miklos Rozza. All concerts take place in Western Stage's Main Stage except for the Winter Jazz number. [WR]
