Remember that scene in Rebel Without a Cause where the kids check out a constellation show at Griffith Observatory's planetarium? Well, at Hartnell College's planetarium, the drama is up on the wrap-around screen of the fantastical dome. In December they project Season of Light, an examination of various cultures' take on winter solstice, a fine, scientific diversion from the commercial consumerist take elsewhere. The show includes a live "sky tour" of whatever constellations and planets are currently visible. This is literally a place of higher learning. And it's cool. [WR]
