Here's a gamechanger: pro hoops in Salinas. And while there will be no Julius Erving sightings at this regionalized reinvention of the American Basketball Association Dr. J and the tri-colored ball made big back in the era of atmospheric afros, the California Sea-Kings do have some studs. Fresh off three road games to open the season, 6'9" all-court-comfortable Dion Dixon and 6'5" bulldog two-guard Deshaun Anderson, who lit up the NBA's off-season league in L.A., look to tumble the San Francisco Rumble at the Sea-King home opener on the Hartnell hardwood. Coach R. Ruby Richman, a one-time Canada Mr. Basketball, hopes a big win will help energize an area fanbase and the gala event that follows at the Steinbeck Center. [MCA]
