Eugene, Oregon's Meade channels some of indie rocks greatest souls in his raw, vulnerable lyricism and playing. His voice cracks at just the right emotional pitches, his solo guitar work builds and plateaus achingly and leaves you feeling, simply, depressed. But it's deftly and soulfully done, a reminder that even life's painful subjects have a strange beauty about them that we sometimes need to face head on. And not all of Meade's work is of the downer sort, just some of his most haunting. [MF]
