First there was the Alternative Cafe's satellite gallery next to Golden State Theatre; then Red Dot Gallery at Seaside's City Center. Then, last Tuesday, Dec. 22, Interim Inc., a nonprofit that provides support services and housing for people with mental disabilities and illness, followed suit by occupying a previously empty space and filling it with art. Under the banner of Breakthrough H'Art, Interim has enlisted their clients to turn the former location of Herman's Diner into an art gallery of paintings ranging from landscape to abstract, collaborative pieces, jewelry, knitting and pencils. The varied art is for sale, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit, and the artists effectively run the gallery. The program continues indefinitely, but the gallery space closes Jan. 16. Hurry. [WR]
2-6pm Thu-Sat; 2-7pm Tue. Monterey, 380 Alvarado St., Monterey. Free to attend. 883-3030. http://www.breakthroughhart.yolasite.com.
