The special dinner of a baron of beef, fresh seafood and pasta may be the last time on this night that you're sitting down, once Stockton soul-funk outfit Reunion Band get a hold of you. On their cover of "Down To the Nightclub" by Tower of Power, they punctuate the chorus of "bump-ty, bump-ty bump!" and "drunk, drunk, drunk!" with blasts from a solid and tight chorus of horns (one member also played in Tower of Power). Their "Willing to Learn" slows things down while keeping the energy up for a power ballad where singer Christine Acosta wails all over love and redemption and the horns sound like a clarion call. The party favors and champagne toast are just like dessert to this meaty party. [WR]
