This ensemble of clarinetist Igor Begelman, violinist Grigory Kalinovsky, cellist Sophie Shao and pianist Tatiana Goncharova is a picture of excellence in classical music. The group, who have played at venues from Carnegie Hall to the Singapore Sun Festival, performs four distinct pieces for concertgoers in Carmel, including Brahms' Opus 114 and Tchaikovsky’s Opus 50. Of note is Stravinsky’s L'histoire du Soldat, composed for the 1918 play of a solider who trades his fiddle to the devil in exchange for economic predictions, featuring an intricate and rousing offbeat melody. Another standout piece includes Shostakovich’s Prelude #24 which features a delicate and mischievous dance of the piano and violin. [QE]
