The Western Stage presents three plays celebrating the sanctity of womanhood coinciding with V-DAY,an annual global movement to stop violence against women, inspired by Eve Ensler’s plsy “The Vagina Monologues” (7:30pm Feb. 20; 2pm March 1). This production includes a new monologue and a traditionally all female cast. A Monologue, a Memory, and a Prayer, edited by Ensler, about violence against women and their recovery, includes male cast members (7:30pm Feb. 21 and 28). Esler’s most recent work, Anyone of Us: Words from Prison, depicts the violent treatment among women in prison and women from Esler’s firsthand interviews (2pm Feb. 22; noon Feb. 25; 7:30pm Feb. 28). All of the production's proceeds are denoted to the Women’s Crisis Center, who in return give 10% to Democratic Republic of Congo, where women suffer barbaric “femicide,” including rape, vaginal mutilation, and even live burials. Director Susanne Brown calls worldwide crises of women the “global warming of women.” Tickets can be purchased at Island Soap Candle Works in Pacific Grove, the Cherry Bean in Salinas, and Aquablue in Salinas.
