The Burning of Rome's "Norman Bates" begins as polished pop on a bed of keyboards. Then, the song gets darker and darker with lyrics about stabbing and an explosion of metal. Throughout, it's strange, catchy and highly reminiscent of the twisted work of Mike Patton's Mr. Bungle. The San Diego seven piece, which plays with local acts Pride Subject and Mnemonic Device tonight, has also been known to dress up in Roman attire for their live shows. [ST]
