The 2009 Monterey Swingfest brings almost a week of jumpin’, jivin’, and wailin’ to the county. Last year’s event brought more than 900 attendees, some from Europe and Australia, so dance partners abound. Thursdays kickoff night pairs people up for an all-levels dance party at 9pm while the pros work the room. Friday hosts the Masters of Swing final competition; on Saturday, join the West Coast Swing classes with instructors Arjay Centeno & Melissa Rutz. Sunday and Monday guests continue the movement with All-American prelims and finals and the last open dances of the four-day event. Throughout the week, special guests from So You Think You Can Dance and Star Search showcase the moves that got ‘em on the tube. QE
