The folks at Paper Wing excel at gritty, dark material with a jagged funny bone. This time out, they enact the true story of two men in the 1930s as they spiral to the bottom of the booze bottle. Bill Wilson drinks uncontrollably after he's ruined in the stock market crash; Dr. Bob Smith, a 30-year alcoholic, is so adjusted to drunkeness that he operates with a hangover. It's not until they find each other that they marshall the strength they'll need to remain clean and sober, and would go on to form the influential organization Alcoholics Anonymous. Koly McBride directs this heavy drama with the silver lining. [WR]
