The California Coastal Commission announces its 11th annual photography competition in which amateur (income less than 50 percent from photography) shutterbugs are invited to snap photos of the coast and ocean in the subjects of "the scenic coast," "ways people use the coast," and "coastal wildlife," with a sub-category in each--"humor." Plants and animals should be in their native habitat, settings are to be public, photos in color, and mammals are not to be approached within 50 yards. The aim is to pay tribute to California's natural beauty. Winners receive a Fairmont hotel stay and a yacht cruise from Hornblower Cruises. Deadline is July 15; see website for details.
