The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History's minerals and gemstones show is related, indirectly, to the Feast of Lanterns Royal Court exhibit. Amethyst, jade, garnet, aquamarine, topaz, turquoise, tourmaline--nearly all the Feast minerals--are represented, most notably jade, of which the museum has a massive sample of in the lobby. Attendees can break open geodes with crystals inside with a hammer, examine mineral structures and symmetry and then make models. No "look but don't touch" business here.
11am-3pm. Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, 165 Forest Ave., Pacific Grove. Free; donations appreciated. 648-5716. http://www.pgmuseum.org.
