Remember Sonic Youth's Goo album cover by Raymond Pettibon? That's what CAA featured artist Julie Brown Smith invokes, with her stark and provocative ink on canvas paintings/drawings of city street scenes. The other featured artist, Gustavo Torres, does bronze sculptures that abstract, with rough, elongated shapes, people, animals and "ancient cultures." New artists to CAA are painter and printmaker Alice Geller Robertson, who depicts animals and shoes in her contemporary mono-prints and paintings, and sculptor Laurent Davidson, whose metal mobiles float and refract in air. Also featured are works by Mark Farina, Gerard Martin and Tim Sloan. Take it all in at the opening reception today. [WR]
