New York Times bestselling author Amy Stewart, who's currently on a nationwide tour, drops in on Carmel for a discussion and book signing for her latest, Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities, courtesy of the Carmel Public Library Foundation. The author, also, of Flower Confidential and The Earth Moved, she takes a macabre turn with her new book, exploring the use of plants in historical deaths, murders and suicides, including Socrates' infamous execution by poison hemlock and the erratic behavior caused by the hallucinogenic ergot fungus that ignited the Salem witch trials. The L.A. Times calls the book "deliciously eerie." Reservations required. [WR]
7pm. Sunset Center, Carpenter Hall, San Carlos between Eighth and Ninth, Carmel. $10/suggested donation. 620-2048. http://www.hm-lib.org.
