Monterey County Free Libraries are putting out the call to aspiring cowpoets under 18 to spin cowboy and cowgirl verse for its annual Cowboy Poetry Contest, centered around the theme of the "Western way of life." The top winning poets can read their poems at the Cowboy Entertainment Gathering benefit in Salinas on July 12, and receive other prizes, including the chance to meet the show's entertainers. Deadline is June 24. As a supplement, 14 branches of the MCFL host Cowboy Story Times in June, filled with crafts, songs and poem writing. See website for details.
