StoryCorps is a non-profit project, partnered with National Public Radio and the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress, that seeks to tell the stories of the extraordinary lives of regular American. They're outfitted an Airstream trailer as a recording studio and, since launching in October of 2003, have traveled to more than 100 towns in 48 states, collecting 23,000 stories. Salinas is next, with the StoryCorps trailer parked outside of the Steinbeck Center where they invite locals to come tell and record their stories as part of this bigger tapestry. Interviews are conducted at 10:30am and 12:30pm; spectators are encouraged.
10:30am and 12:30pm. National Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas. Free. 775-4721. http://www.steinbeck.org.
