Featuring singer John "Broadway" Tucker, winner of the 2006 Monterey Bay Blues Festival's "Mobay" Artist of the Year award, this performance will showcase soul and blues in the tradition of the 1960s. John Tucker was the son of a sharecropper on the Mississippi Delta. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee just as soul and blues music was taking off there. He spent time at Stax Records mentored by Sam Cooke, then sang for the USO in the military. After he was moved to Fort Ord, he became a fixture on the local blues scene, and even played with Jimi Hendrix when the latter visited in 1967. This event features refreshments for purchase, and a portion of the proceeds will go to support the Pacific Grove Art Center. [JF]
