For those that don’t know, Dixieland jazz gave us the great Louis Armstrong and the American classic “When the Saints Go Marching In.” This year, a small army of practitioners of Dixieland (and swing and blues)---including Monterey’s Cow Bop and the Howard Alden Trio, whose guitarist did the music for Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown---will celebrate the genre with performances at Portola Hotel, Monterey Conference Center and Fisherman’s Wharf. There are two badge-free gospel sets 9am Sunday at the Portola Plaza Hotel and the Conference Center, and a free jam session 7pm Friday and 8:30pm Saturday at the Bonzai Room of the Portola.
