Leon may have moved to Washington, but the Panetta Institute for Public Policy is bringing out the big guns this year. The kick-off event of their 12th annual lecture series, under the banner The Challenges Facing the New Administration, "Can Healthcare Reform Finally Happen?" features a discussion with former U.S.Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle, who was slated to commandeer healthcare policy for Obama until his nomination got derailed. He will be joined by former U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt in a discussion moderated by CNN's Gloria Borger. Coudn't be more timely, but hold your fire: Karl Rove and former Oabama campaign manager David Plouffe are coming in April. Look for fireworks, even if the annual 4th of July Monterey celebrations are cancelled. [PW]
