Move over, Woody Guthrie and Clifford Odets. The Indoor Forest Theatre's latest production abandons the perils of the Depression to revive “Mrs. Warren's Profession,'' George Bernard Shaw's play about the relationship between a prostitute (Mr. Warren) and her puritanical, Cambridge-educated daughter Vivie, who is shocked - shocked! -.when she discovers how her mother made her fortune. We won't reveal the other plot points, except to say that Shaw's work, as usual, remains contemporary and relevant to modern-day concerns. The play was originally banned by the Lord Chamberlain of London because of the subject matter, but was finally opened in 1902 to a members-only audience to get around the edict. One trusts the Carmel production will be performed without being busted by the coppers. [PW]
