In his younger days, Luis Rodriguez ran in a gang in East L.A., living life surrounded by violence and desperation. He went on to become an award-winning Chicano poet, but was forced to revisit his former life when his son joined a gang: he wrote the cautionary tale of his early life, Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A, a Carl Sandberg Literary Award winner.
