Talk to Me at Carl Cherry Center

Turn your attention this weekend to Carl Cherry's latest installment of their Talk to Me competition. Starting last year, playwrights were invited to submit short pieces, which were judged to cull the best—and here they are. Monologues dominate, but with original offerings from more than a dozen authors, from the grand and abstract to the intimate and personal, variety remains the overall theme. And brevity. Local actors bring the works to life under the direction of Nina Capriola, including Sunday's "One-On-One" competition winners Elisabeth Gray, whose debut, I Wish I Had a Sylvia Plath, went on to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Brooklyn author Bruce Strutz. FYI. Reservations suggested. (See Theater story.) [WR]
7:30pm Fri-Sat; 2pm Sun. Carl Cherry Center for the Arts, Fourth and Guadalupe, Carmel. $20/performance; $50/all three performances. 624-7491. http://www.carlcherrycenter.org/.
