Gallery Walk-Through at Carmel Mission

Carmel Mission's current exhibition, "In the Footsteps of Father Junípero Serra, 1750:1758: The Five Folk-Baroque Mission Churches of Mexico's Sierra Gorda," uses stunning imagery to tell the little-known story of Father Serra's early missions in remote Mexico. Although it's on display through March, Sunday's walk-through is an opportunity to get the story behind the images--exhibition photographer Jeffrey Becom, illustrator and religious architecture specialist Richard Perry and curator Dr. Julianne Burton-Carvajal will be in house to offer their different takes on the five missions' rich symbolism. Learn about Father Serra's "new missionary method," "folk-baroque" architecture, and why the missions are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. [MC]
Noon-2pm. Carmel Mission Basilica and Museum, 3080 Rio Road, Carmel. Free. 624-3600.
