A new show by Los Angeles-based artist Mark Licardi continues the Monterey Museum of Art's series of increasingly ambitious modern art exhibitions. Licari will be creating a piece of art by painting directly on MMA gallery walls, using the space as a laboratory for paintings, drawings , sculptures and a site-specific work to weave together an ongoing narrative. Part of the "In Process'' series featuring new projects by emerging and mid-career artists, it's accompanied by a publication showing Licardi's art, including an essay by MMA chief curator Marcelle Polednik. Licari's solo gallery exhibitions include shows in Aspen, Colorado, the Honor Fraser Gallery in L.A. He's also created drawings for the facades and interiors of buildings in Los Angeles and San Francisco ("Living Kitchen'' at the Haight-Ashbury Food Program. The Licari shows is up through Feb. 14, 2010, simultaneously with "Art on Paper - Contermporary Works from the Collection.'' [PW]
