Oh, to be an otter. Though cute and fun to watch in the water, the otter population has dwindled to approx. 2,800, 15 percent less than the historical estimate of 16,000-20,000 animals. These numbers are saddening, but there are dedicated individuals fighting for the critters and spreading the word about their unique and lovable qualities. At Otter Days, meet a friendly otter buddy (a volunteer in otter costume), marvel as the real ones are fed and ask those burning otter inquiries to the assembled experts. Saturday is the last day to catch the freshwater otter exhibition, "Wild About Otters" before it closes. The weekend's also about empowerment, teaching visitors what they can do to ensure the survival of these delightful divers. [MF]
