The Japanese word Daikaiju, which means "giant monster" in Japanese, is the perfect band name for this Alabama sextet. Donning Japanese masks, these six musicians play monstrous punky surf rock instrumentals with impeccable skills. Their 2005 self-titled debut even garnered a 7.8 out of 10 from the picky Pitchfork music website. A Royal Symphony and The Mystery Lights open. [ST]
