After crops have been commercially harvested, folks are invited to collect leftover produce—a process called "gleaning"—to distribute to the county's hungry by way of Ag Against Hunger. Last year volunteers hand harvested 120,000 pounds of produce that would have been plowed over otherwise. Call for directions or meet to caravan to various fields; wear comfortable clothes, hat, sunscreen and closed shoes or boots; and bring a container to take fresh pickings home. Their gleanings take place various Saturdays until Nov. 21.
