While his East Bay punk band The Mr. T Experience never made it as big as contemporaries Green Day or Rancid, Frank Portman is getting another shot at being a pop culture phenomenon. For his second act, Portman has turned to penning young adult fiction with considerable success. His first novel, 2006's King Dork, is being made into a movie by Will Ferrell's production company. Today, Portman will sing songs, sign books and read from his latest book Andromeda Klein, which is about a high school occultist. [ST]
3pm. Henry Miller Library, Highway 1, quarter mile south of Nepenthe, Big Sur. Free. 667-2574. http://www.henrymiller.org.
