Metropolitan Opera's Hamlet at Century 13 Cinemas

The Metropolitan Opera's "Live in HD" series continues with a live broadcast of French composer Amrboise Thomas's Hamlet. Simon Keenlyside plays Hamlet, which is one of the rare baritone title roles in opera, while Marlis Petersen sings soprano as Ophelia, performing the famous extended mad scene that Thomas created. Thomas and his librettists Carré and Barbier took many liberties with their adaptation of Shakespeare's play, including altering the last few turns of the story entirely, creating a triumphant rather than tragic ending. If that reversal doesn't bother you too much, you will enjoy this opportunity to have Metropolitan talent brought right to you while you munch on popcorn kernels. April 14 brings an encore. [MQ]
