The matron of Carmel Valley live nighttime music lends herself and her band the stage at Plaza Linda to spin their folksy, mystical hippie daydreams. The guitars whine and sway like a Hawaiian slide guitar on "Top of the World." "It's New Year's Day" is big, bright and affirming, sounding grand but intimate still. Comedian/writer Lord Carrett writes an ode to Kiki on her myspace: "Kiki is just a little more alive than anyone I know." It's rapturous music, with Kiki singing in a perpetually youthful, warm, idealistic and human tone. Like a caress. Like a late afternoon sun. [WR]
