For the third year, the tri-county Reel Work May Day Labor Film Festival comes to CSUMB, bringing an inspiring variety of labor and social justice-themed documentaries. The four-day event kicks off Friday night with short film Time to Tackle Climate Change, followed by Coal Country, which explores the emotional effects mountaintop removal in the Appalachian Mountains. Monday features The People Speak with the late Howard Zinn. Cleve Jones, who interned with San Francisco gay rights activist Harvey Milk, will speak before Tuesday night's screening of Milk. The local curtain on the Reel Work film fest closes with Race to Nowhere, a look at the failings of No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top. Get reel. [ZS]
