In a new dark comedy written and performed by Elisabeth Gray, our stereotypes of the American South are presented then broken down to reveal a complex, dynamic demographic of the American landscape. Each character is instantly unlikable- whether slovenly or materialistic or racist. But Gray takes each one and reveals their inner sensitivities and rich lives, the stuff that makes Southerners just like the rest of us, even if we refuse to believe that’s possible. It’s a rich, original work created by an up-and-coming playwright and actor who wants to make audiences uncomfortable, but only for the sake of enlightenment. The show runs through Sunday. [MF]
