Bing Crosby founded more than 200 private, non-profit youth centers, of which the Carmel Youth Center is the last remaining. For 60 years now, the CYC has been teaching kids the finer points of dance, jazz, martial arts, cooking and rock--and roll, that is. This anniversary celebrates what that kind of creative nurturing can lead to with a fundraiser performance by South African pop band Overtone, who were discovered by Clint Eastwood, who scored much of his film Invictus with their music, and Dina Eastwood, who manages them now. These smooth lads, who can sing in four African languages, sold out their last performance on the Peninsula. [WR]
