If you thought Forest Theater's productions of Alice and Wonderland and Treasure Island were worthy commemorations of their 100th birthday, then the city of Carmel's party will change your definition of the word. It starts at Devendorf Park with opening ceremonies, then moves in a grand procession of antique cars and strolling performers (and period/theatrical costumed attendees; that means you) to the Forest Theater, where attendees will be greeted with free hot dogs and drinks ($5 for wine and commemorative glass), historic displays and special performances by performers such as Taelen Thomas, Keith Decker, Gracie Moore Poletti and others, who conjure theater founders Herbert Heron, Mary Austin and Cole Weston and perform excerpts from past and recent shows. The birthday ends graciously by presenting Children's Experimental Theatre founder Marcia Gambrell Hovick with the aptly named Forest Theater Treasure Award. [WR]
3:30-7:15pm. Carmel, Devendorf Park (Junipero and Serra) and Forest Theater (Mountain View and Santa Rita), Carmel. Free; $5 for wine and glass. 620-2000, 622-0700 x103.
