What could be a better pre-Valentine's Day present than taking your loved one to a performance of Eve Ensler's now iconic The Vagina Monologues. As the press release from CSUMB on the show says, memorably, "Of all the parts of a woman's body, none is quite as shrouded in mystery as the vagina.' Ensler aimed to demystify that basic biological fact when she debuted the play, which has since become an international staging ground for V-Day, a campaign to celebrate women and girls and stop sexual violence against them. The CSUMB production, which is student-run, student-directed and student=acted, features new monologues. "I think often women are not listened to, and the monologue forces you to listen,'' Ensler, whose new book, "I Am AN Emotional Creature'' is a collection of more than 30 fictional monologues in the voices of teenage girls , told a New York TImes interviewer recently. She's certainly been succesful in getting our attention." [PW]
