For the 10th year, Partners for Peace puts on their annual Salinas Reads Week, Feb. 9-12, to promote literacy and reading to Salinas Valley elementary kids in grades 1-6. They're asking for 600 or more volunteers to read to a class their favorite kids book, then, if inclined, to leave that book behind to help replenish ailing schools' libraries. Books can also be donated independently at Salinas City Hall, Border's in Sand City or Starbucks on South Main, Salinas. The Little Prince or Hannah is My Name might be in order.
