Normally, the National Writers Union, chapter 7, stages poetry readings at the lit-centric coffee shop, but this evening belongs to prose. Though known for his poetry, John Laue says he must have had 25-30 various jobs in his lifetime, from blowgun and dart factory worker to liquor store clerk to high school teacher (that one stuck for a while—20 years). The UC Berkeley grad will take the audience on a journey across his eclectic resume. Longtime Californian Richard Lange says he writes "realistic" short stories set in California, like his literary hero Raymond Carver, in which "bad things happen to people." The author and Syracuse alum reads his prose for the first time at East Village. [WR]
