Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. I just wrote that Boy Scout Law from memory. Not bad, 24 years after leaving Troop 35 of Seaside. In addition to imprinting a pretty shining list of worthy character attributes like that, the Scouts provided myself and, they estimate, 110 million boys overall, and 3,600 current local scouts ages 7-20, with unforgettable moments of challenge, adventure and comaraderie. And their 100 years of doing so deserve no less than the dinner/demo/gala like the Monterey Bay Area Council Boy Scouts of America delivers on Saturday, Feb. 20. MCing the event is radio KWAV 97FM radio personality Barry Brown, keynote speaker is president of the San Francisco 49ers Jed York, and a midway exhibit of scouting memorabilia—including a vast personal collection one man is bringing, says MBACBSA CEO Albert Gallegos—films and demos should filll the room with nostalgia and pride. And special awards are handed to local Eagle Scouts, from age 15 to 80. Gallegos was snowed in on a recent trip to D.C., but we think he'll know how to thrive in the inclement environment. RSVP. [WR]
