The Peace Resource Center gets ready for "Twelve Months of Invasions" as it kicks off a new-themed new year of its "Out on the Town" movie nights. Every fourth Tuesday, the Center will show a film about a different war in which the United States has been involved, starting with "Mutiny," about the War of 1812, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and making its way through the present and on to projections of future wars as it wraps up the year with "Avatar" on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Particular movie choices are not set in stone, however, and the Center is encouraging suggestions, but so far they're penicled in 1776 on Feb. 23, something on the Mexican-American War March 23, Little Big Man (Dustin Hoffman) April 27, Glory on May 25, something on the Spanish-American War June 22, All's Quiet on the Western Front on July 27, Europa Europa on Aug. 24, M.A.S.H. on Sept. 28...wow, we've been in a lot of wars...Full Metal Jacket on Oct. 26, Three Kings on Nov. 23 and Avatar on Dec. 28. The Center is also encouraging guests to bring cushions, as the audience will, if so inclined, be peacefully perched upon pillows while munching on popcorn. (For those who would rather not sit on the floor, chairs are also available.) The event should provide an invigorating mixture of gravity, lightness, and community-building.
6pm doors open; 6:30pm film rolls. Peace Resource Center, 1364 Fremont Blvd. , Seaside. Free. 373-7322.
