For real, though, Carla Blackwell is hot. She recently toured Sao Paulo, Brazil, playing the Annual Jazz Festival at Bourbon Street Music Cafe (now that's a diaspora) where she raised the temperature with Michael Jackson's "I Want You Back." She does a pop-lite version of Madonna's "Holiday," but she gets soulful on Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You," showing sure command of her voice. Backed by four cats—drummer Maurice Miles, keyboardist Gene Ginn, guitarist Bill Ireton and bassist Jay Goudeau—who lay down a bed of jazzy, bluesy, smoothed out R&B, Carla looks like a she's ready to catch fire.
